The Blush Tag

My favorite makeup item of all time has to be blush. I love how healthy and radiant it can make your overall makeup and skin look! I stumbled upon the beauty blog, Buy Now Blog Later's blush tag and knew I had to do it :) !

How many blushes do you own? 14…some were gifts though! :p

What’s your favorite blush brush? elf studio line blush brush, only $3 ! It’s dome shaped, slightly tapered at the top, soft and blends like a dream.

Cream blush vs powder? I prefer powder for the control I can get in application and longevity as well.

Peach vs. Pink and favorites of each? I prefer pinks over peach colors.

elf’s blush in “peachy keen" will forever be one of my all time favorite blushes. it’s a gorgeous peach color with golden shimmer. so flattering and lovely. mine shattered ._. but still very loved! I swatched NARS “Luster” at Sephora and the shades were almost identical to me!

NARS blush in “orgasm” (I know the name is raunchy…) is probably my favorite pink blush ever. A lot of brands make pink blushes with golden shimmer, but something about how this applies and looks is incomparable!

Drugstore vs. High end and favorites of each? drugstore makes great blushes. High end is just for packaging and is nice to have, so drugstore wins in my book. Favorite would have to be elf studio blushes ($3) for the drugstore win, baby! They are all pigmented, cheap and blend well. I haven’t tried many high end blushes, but I do love my one and only NARS! It blends so well.

Most overrated? As much as I love my NARS blush in the shade “orgasm" and love it more than all the other duplicates, I will say that it can be overrated…just because I have found many blushes that give off similar colors when applied on the cheeks. As you can see below…lots of dupes for this famous shade. But I still like NARS the best :p

Most underrated? Sleek MakeUp makes really great products…and really great blushes as well. I feel like a lot of people don’t talk about them as much! Maybe because it’s a UK brand and you have to order online :p but thankfully my lovely friend gifted this to me when she studied abroad in the UK last year. I want to collect them all! They’re divine.

Worth the hype? the quality of NARS, elf, and wet n’ wild are all worth the hype :D

Top 5 blushes everyone should own?

It was difficult choosing 5 since I feel like everyone’s preference and skintone is different from mine, but…(from top left to right and then bottom left to right)

-> wet n’ wild blush in “heather silk” is a gorgeous, pigmented, cheap, matte medium pink that would look great on everybody
-> NARS orgasm…or honestly any other pink peachy shade with golden shimmer (sleek, milani, and estee lauder make great dupes of this shade)
-> Benefit Dandelion Powder is awesome if you’re fair like me. It’s a lovely ballet, light pink color that I haven’t seen any other brands make. Gives a really subtle flush to the cheeks.
-> elf blush “peachy keen”…golden shimmer in a peachy blush. Everyone needs this!!
-> elf blush “mellow mauve” is a really muted, nude toned color that looks great to give balance to the face when you’re wearing a heavier eye or a bold lip.

What blushes are on your wish list? NARS “luster,” “madly”…and just NARS in general :p, any TARTE blushes just to try and more sleek blushes hehe

Final thoughts? I tag prettyinplum, jazblogsbeauty, lipstickandstockings, itsaccordingtoandrea, glossandgab and aprilbelles ! I would love to know your favorites as well :D

review | NYX soft matte lip cream in “san paulo”

STATS: 0.27 fl oz. Around $5 at Target. Velvety black top handle. See through packaging. Doe foot applicator. And product that smells like caramel. yum.

NYX claims that this product is “neither lipstick nor lip gloss…goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish…surprisingly durable and..also moisturizing.”

My friend kindly gave me this lip product because the color didn’t work on her. And me, being an eager beaver to try out a new product (new for me), gratefully accepted hehe

San Paulo" is described as a "plummy-pink" on the website.

  • the formula of this is AMAZING. It applies very smoothly and creamily. the initial texture is almost mousse like. but after about 2 minutes or so, it sets on the lip and does not transfer when you touch your lips to anything !
  • stays on for so long, even through eating and drinking (didn’t leave any marks on my starbucks lid!). yet it is easy to remove. just rub it off with a napkin.
  • is velvety matte in its finish, but is not drying at all on the lip. feels like you have nothing on your lips actually.

I’m so glad that the target near me has such a limited display of colors, otherwise I’d be too tempted to add more to my collection :) this stuff is great! Check it out if you’re into matte lip products!

review | wet n wild fergie cream eyeliner in “cocoa riche”

Hello everybody ! How are you all doing today?

Black gel eyeliner is a classic staple in my makeup bag, but some days I like to sport something a little less bold. I had been dying to try some “new” things released from wet n wild's Fergie collection, so I picked up one of their creme eyeliners. There are only two colors available: a brown (“cocoa riche”) and a black (“little black dress”).

STATS | around $5 at Walgreens, 0.10 oz

CLAIMS | "precision of a liquid liner [with] the ease of a cream application…waterproof formula stays on all day and night…smudge proof, crease-resistant finish"

PACKAGING | A little plastic pot, with a screw top lid. Underneath the lid, the pot of product had a foiled protective seal. Comes with a decent brush that has the shape of a mini concealer brush.

"cocoa riche" is a pretty dark chocolate brown color, that dries to a semi-matte finish.

the product was….

  • soft and creamy, easy to apply using the brush
  • super long lasting! usually any “long wearing” eyeliner (pencil or gel, cream or liquid) smears in the inner part of my eye by mid day, but this product barely smeared. I did find, however, the product started breaking down a little bit in that part of my eye after 6 hours or so, but little smearing (the line was just a bit broken down)
  • easy to remove with makeup remover
  • "drier" in formula than M.A.C fluidline, but still glides on smooth
  • not as long lasting in the waterline. When used to tight line, it transferred to the skin underneath my eye (but this happens with every eyeliner i’ve ever used in the waterline) :(

Overall, it’s a fantastic cream eyeliner for its price. Long lasting and fairly priced :D

A lot of women on Makeupalley actually use this particular color for their eyebrows! They all said it was a cheaper dupe for the Anastasia dipbrow. The shade doesn’t work for my eyebrows, but if you’re a brunette, try it out!

 :D Hope this was helpful!

The Procrastinating Beauty Blogger Tag

The lovely Flor from Lipsticks & Stockings tagged me in a beauty procrastination tag! Please check out her amazing blog if you already don’t know about it :D

1.  Name a beauty regime that you rarely do.
I don’t know if this is considered a beauty regime, but I’m really bad about applying my daytime SPF facial moisturizer down to my neck. Consequently, my neck is a few shades darker than my face LOL
 2. Is washing your make-up brushes something you do regularly?
Not at all… I’m pretty bad about this actually. It’s not urgent to me unless I need the brushes to be clean before and after doing a friend’s makeup.
 3. How long will you last with chipped nail polish?
I can go very long haha! I know it looks terrible and gross, but I’m so lazy about it.
4. How long do you put off buying/replacing a beauty or nail polish product, even if you need it? (ex: purchasing a new top coat or foundation).
I have never really needed to replace something. Ever. That’s how much stuff I have lying around ._. but in the case that I do need something, I would probably go and get it in a heartbeat.
5. What is your worst beauty habit?
Besides not washing my brushes regularly, sometimes I’m too lazy to take off all my makeup before I sleep. I know, everything I’m saying makes me sound dirty LOL Usually I’m pretty good about getting everything off my skin though, but when it comes to eye makeup…I get pretty lazy and take care of it in the morning.
6. Name something non-beauty related that you put off all the time.
Studying :p and probably laundry.
7. When going out somewhere, do you leave getting ready to the last minute?
If it’s something I care more about (like being a guest at a wedding), I’ll take time getting ready. But if it’s more chill, I tend to lie around in bed and get ready last minute.
8. Can you commit to a spending ban?
Yes! I’ve done so before to help me gain some self control :p Spending bans are very hard, but it’s good for me. I’m trying my best to use up something before buying something new (it’s going to take me a while to hit pan on something, or use up a lip color though…). I like variety in choices with blushes, lipsticks and eyeshadows, so I’m focusing more on using up my foundations and concealers and mascaras before buying new and different ones.
9. How organized is your make-up and nail polish collection?
I have little drawers or baskets to organize the different categories of makeup: foundations, lips, blushes etc but I’m not very good with putting stuff back where it belongs, so every once in a while, I have to re-organize :p
10. What is the longest amount of time you have gone without writing a blog post?
Probably a few months!
Thanks for the tag, Flor! It was fun to do :D
